MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION

MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION

In order to understand the movement for LEGALIZATION you 1st have to understand the reasoning for PROHIBITION.

The US started Prohibition in the United States with a nationwide constitutional ban on the production, importation, transportation, and sale of ALCOHOLIC beverages from 1920 to 1933. Going so far as to make it the 18th amendment to the constitution.

By the mid-1930s cannabis was regulated as a drug in every state. The first FEDERAL regulation was the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937.

THE American Medical Association. fought prohibition and taxation of CANNABIS SATIVA stating its long known value in medical treatments. And politicizing it as marijuana to demonize it as an illicit and harmful DRUG was ridiculous.

Many theories about the REASONS for the demonization and criminalization at the time range from the William Randolph Hearst conspiring with politicians to protect his logging empire. Politicians invested in DuPont and Rayon. A plot to cripple the Hemp industry using the hispanic community and  smokable marijuana as a tool. The PROPOGANDA at the time like the film REEFER MADNESS in 1936 made it out to be a danger to our kids.

FOR the next 30 years MARIJUANA went UNDERGROUND until thr 1960 counterculture revolution.

Timothy Leary beat the. US Govts claim under the maijuana tax act in 1969 ( Leary v. United States),    so then Cannabis was officially outlawed for any use (medical included) with the passage of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) of 1970.

That same year with $5000 from HUGH HEFNER, Keith Stroup started N.O.R.M.L. -National Organization for Reformation of Marijuana Laws ,a grassroots organization pushing to decriminalize , legalize and establish a system for responsible adult use.

The FIGHT around the globe had begun. Marc Emery of CANADA and Jack Herer of The US both began spreading the word and pushing the boundaries. After 60 years .....

In 1996: California became the first state to legalize medical cannabis with the approval of Proposition 215. the Compassionate Use Act conceived by marijuana activist Dennis Peron.

It established a framework to allow drs to recommend cannabis without fear of prosecution and then it allowed patients and caregivers to possess and cultivate without prosecution..

SB 420 was then passed to iron out the details, creating possession and cultivation limits, a database of patients and card system,  and of course crimes and penalties.

The CANNABIS BUYERS CLUB was set up as template to have drs, lawyers, caregiver, patients all under one roof providing education, information, safe access and consumption.

Now in 2018 we have 9 states plus DC with 21+ adult use and 30 states with a medical marijuana program.

The momentum is building with CANADA legalizing October 17, 2018 the US renegotiating NAFTA maay result in FEDERAL LEGALIZATION and reacheduling this FALL!

Addressing safe public consumption and legal limits must be addressed to provide a safe and healthy situation.

Oklahoma has become 30th state to institute a medical program and North Dakota is looking to completely legalize without restarints.
