Crazy 4 Kabuki
I Recently visited Kabuki located within the very popular Town Square on the south end of the strip. The atmosphere was very calm, although there was a mixture of up-beat and popular music, the lighting was low still giving the place an elegant feel. Dining with a friend not too familiar nor fond of sushi we opted to sit at a booth rather than the sushi bar.
Luckily we arrived just in time for the Reverse Happy Hour around 9pm, where you can buy a happy hour menu item at regular price and receive the second in the same category for $1 (including; sake, beer, appetizers, sashimi and basic sushi rolls).
So naturally we started off with two Kirin Ichiban draft beers that hit the spot just right, and ordered 3 appetizers including:
- Sesame Chicken: Served with Spicy Ponzu sauce, it was a decent sized portion, and blew any Chinese take-out version out of the water.
- Fried Calamari: Seamed like a small mountain, and came with a fancy lemon wedge and two different sauces both excellent.
- Mozzarella Tempura: Very surprising and unique! I was expecting mozzarella sticks but instead got something more like tempura sushi pieces containing cheese and a some mild but still zesty pepper. It was like Japanese Jalapeno poppers.... I loved it.
As far as the specialty rolls went, i didn't order as exotic or as raw as i would have liked but still was extremely satisfied:
- Gold Rush Roll - California roll with a light tempura outside, served with eel sauce. Very familiar flavor as i have ordered this at many other Japanese restaurants, but delicious just the same.
- Baja roll: A new menu item and is a salsa topped spicy crap roll. It was the perfect infusion of two totally different cultures.
- Vegas Roll - Also having a tempura outside; the salmon, cream cheese, and avocado will make this roll melt in your mouth. I have experienced my fair share of sushi, and Kabuki ranks one of the best choices by far!
The Service being great, and the food very enjoyable, all without putting a huge dent in your wallet. I cannot wait to come back for some more!
